The restored houses, historic landscapes and gardens of the Strawbery Banke Museum. Visitors may also enjoy a stroll through Prescott Park, a 10-acre waterfront park featuring flower gardens and home to an annual summer arts festival. Those with an interest in architecture may also wish to visit the Wentworth-Gardner House, which has been called “the most perfect specimen of Georgian architecture in this country.”
You won’t want to miss walking the bridge to Peirce Island, located next to Portsmouth’s picturesque South End and offering unobstructed views of the Piscataqua River, Portsmouth’s iconic bridges and shipyard. Get an authentic sense of New Hampshire with a chartered deep sea fishing excursion, whale watching tour and panoramic tours of the Isles of Shoals.
For naval and history buffs, the area is peppered with Revolutionary War and maritime museums and monuments. Among those are the USS Albacore Museum, the basis for the modern submarine, as well as the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and John Paul Jones House. For those visitors looking for recreation, Portsmouth boasts New England’s largest water park at the family-friendly Water Country. Additionally, our staff can direct you to a number of beautiful beaches, parks and area golf courses sure to keep you active at any fitness and interest level – from a picturesque walking trail to an adventurous surf lesson.
If retail activity is more your speed, take a deeper walk downtown and visit the many specialty and boutique shops, or grab the bus or car and head a mile West on Market Street to an abundance of New Hampshire’s acclaimed tax-free shopping. Or head to picturesque Maine and the Kittery Outlets. A complete coastal shopping village of name brands and unique finds are all at a convenient reach to your event. After you’ve hit the links, the beach or strolled through town, be sure to grab a bite at a local café or even visit Redhook Brewery before you wind down, or up, for the day.
